Looking for a denim jacket for your closet? It’s a staple in mine, especially in the spring. Here are a bunch of great ones.

A denim jacket is a staple in my closet, and often you ask me for recommendations for denim jackets.

So today I’ve rounded up a bunch of really great ones from some of my favorite brands. Mine is very old from Gap, but THIS ONE and THIS ONE are both very similar.

What to look for in a denim jacket

  •  LENGTH: the most versatile is one that hits around the top of your hip bones, or slightly above. Longer than this gets too long to wear well with skirts and dresses, and shorter than that can feel like 90’s cropped bolero jackets (not good).
  • COLOR: I own denim jackets in several washes, and by far my most worn wash is a light blue wash LIKE THIS. But that’s personal preference!
  • FIT: Oversized denim jackets are popular right now, but they’re unflattering and shapeless. Let the teens wear them and you and I can stick to a nicely fitting jacket. The shoulder seams should sit right at the point of your shoulder, and the seams on the front should curve slightly like “)(” so they give you a really flattering shape that’s not boxy.
  • FABRIC: The most comfortable denim jackets are the ones with a little stretch to them. It’s personal preference, but the ones that are a tiny bit stretchy are most easy to wear.
