This past year my little sister, Landen, went on study abroad to London (ahem, following in the good steps of her older sisters). During the last few days of her program, my mom flew to London to spend a few days with her, cause seriously who can miss an opportunity like that?

Among a few other fun things that my mom returned with, she brought back a really nice pink and white striped dress shirt for Philip. Both of us loved it, and he immediately started wearing it. The only problem was that it was french cuffed and Philip had no cufflinks. So every time he wore this great shirt, he had to roll up the sleeves.

This is where Homemade Christmas Day #4 comes into play. I decided to make some awesome cufflinks.

It was slightly harder than I thought, especially to find “cufflink pads.” After searching at every jewelry store I could think of, I found some cheap ones on Jewelrysupply.com. A whopping $2.50. Awesome.

My next project was to find something cool to put on them, and immediately thought a “W” would be great since it’s the initial of our last name. So my search began again. My mom suggested “W” keys from a typewriter. Turns out you pretty much have to buy an entire typewriter to get one of those (meaning I’d have to buy TWO typewriters!).

To make a long story short, I ended up with these.

A total of $10, a little super glue, and an old jewelry box, and those babies were wrapped and ready to go.

Although I could have easily bought some cool “W” cufflinks on etsy or wherever, it was so fun to do all the research, put them together, save a few bucks, and now say that I’ve made cufflinks!

EDIT: Sorry…didn’t clarify about what I used for the “W”‘s. I ended up buying “W” charms from Michaels. They came in a pack that spelled “Wish” and with a coupon they cost about $7 total. Although the typewriter letters would have been cool, I didn’t really want to buy two typewriters…
